Kanye West – Runaway (Short Film) Review

Hey guys. Sorry I have not posted in a while. A lot has been going on with Halloween and all of that stuff (excuses, excuses :P).

Last weekend. Kanye debuted his new short film/music video, Runaway. Although considered the video to his hit single Runaway, this video contains almost all of the songs off of his upcoming album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”.

The 35 min story is basically a Phoenix (played by Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks) falling from the sky in front of Kanye, which leads to him falling in luv with her.

I found the plot of the story to be very childish and that was not a huge surprise since it’s Kanye’s film. His character also acted very childish, even selfish at some points. It was also kind of confusing at parts, with scenes staring off, making no sense.

But luckily Kanye made up for the odd (not bad, but odd) storyline by delivering some enjoyable music with songs such as “All of The Lights”, “Power” and the Bon Iver assisted “Lost In The World”.

And the colors in this movie, wow. They are mindblowing, electric. You can see at some points how vivid the blue is for the little details inside the green etc. That was the best part of the film.
And in an interview, Kanye said that Michael Jackson was an inspiration for the film. Is he kidding? Compared to MJ’s work, this is preschool material, embarrassing.

Overall, I was I bit disappointed with Kanye but the music was great.

Verdict: 5.5

Below, the film:
